Evening all. Having a browse through the dvla auctions site and fancy a plate. And yes i know the general consensus.

I don't really want to limit it to the car but wouldn't mind as i'll have it for a while.

So, last name is Aitchison, car is a 525d MSport. How does one make something 'personal'

What you need to do, dear chap, is fiddle around with the various combinations until you find something cheapy cheap, but that looks expensive. This is, in essence, the point of a private plate.

I gathered that, dear chap, but the creative juices just aren't flowing.

I can get M525*** where the stars are my initials but thats tying it to the car.

For me, the actual letters and numbers are fairly irrelevant. I'm happy just to have one that's dateless and short (in my case 3 letters + 2 numbers).

Suppose. Maybe i should stop trying to make it mean something and find a decent combination.

It seems anything to do with my name is bloody expensive!

M525*** is sounding attractive.

I have asked the DVLA for a specific dateless plate to be put in one of their auctions and (12 months later) they put it in.

At a rough guess £1200 for NNNLLL where the number isn't "special" (eg 999 666 or 100 etc) and the letters are benign (don't spell a word or name).

But real value are some of the early dated plates LLL1L with a "1" in - they are short, neat and seem to sit around the £300 to £700 region.

If you asked for 525XXX where XXX are your initials, it is a plate to keep even after you sell the BMW.

Don't get one that relates to the car, unless its a really good plate - looks chavvy imo.
Initials are usually an easy one...

Yes, the 525 plate i'm on about was one i asked them to put in, but now i think about it, it's not that individual.

Give the DVLA a call - they couldn't have been more helpful and emailed me in advance to let me know "my" plate was in the next auction.
