some of them have the code written on top of the stereo itself. Try popping the unit out and see if a sticker is on top.

You laugh but I've seen it with my own peepers! It might have something to do with shaped head units (the ones that are dash shaped) not being likely to be stolen.

It's true. Makes no sense, but some do have them printed or written on the top/side.

Thank christ for that I thought I was going crazy for a minute!

Question... When was the last time you heard of somebody having their car radio stolen?

Early 2000s, no one bothers now, sat navs are the in thing now. Radio thefts went out with mismatched panels on cars.

True, but for how long? What with so many smartphones having nav these days and units themselves becoming cheaper and cheaper, I can't imagine that they will be a good option for long!

I used to work with someone who bought a Fiesta that had a stereo that "didn't work", she joined a Ford forum to try & get a code for it.

Solution to problem?

www.radio-code.co.uk worked for me - about £8 for an instant code. may be cheaper or free sources out there, but at that price didn't think it was worth looking any further

Yep, my Disco stereo has the code written on top.
