A mate of mine just forwarded this to me ...

http://www.newmot.co.uk/

I can't find anything about it on the DIrect.gov website so not sure if it is for real but would come into force at the start of next year.

Some of the items make sense but the modifying the ECU seems a bit wrong!

I'd like to see them try to pull off number 5.

Another rumour..I head that cars without cats will have to be fitted with cats even if they are emissions compliant without one. (Just knock the core out) but still a pain for some with nice exhaust systems.

Number 3, Car battery security.
This is part of the MOT already. So how can it be a new test.

I'll give a st when it appears on a website that is official enough to employ a proofreader and/or someone who can use grammar.

PH doesn't need to employ proofreaders smile

Just had an mot on my 2008 Diesel 300c and on the gas test the machine kept saying it couldn't register enough gas so it was a fail, they tried it several times on full revs still not enough to register. To get the car to pass they hitched a diesel VW golf and that registered as a pass.

Anyone had it before where an engine was too clean to register ?

A bit ironic as I had a job to get my Marcos to register low enough to pass earlier in the year at the same station, a good blast around the ring road soon cleared that. They told me that they have to make big changes next year also.

It's not a fail, but should be advised if noticed. The 2012 testers manual is here:

http://www.dft.gov.uk/vosa/repository/MOT%20Inspec...

The special notice relating to it is here:

http://www.dft.gov.uk/vosa/repository/Special%20No...

Any thing new in the manual is marked with a vertical black line next to it.

Should have been passed with an advisery to state why there is no print out it sounds like they are using & old smoke tester which should have been changed for the type that reads temp as well as smoke for this very reason.

Exigs are going to struggle with 8.1:

1. Check the obligatory mirrors or indirect vision
devices for presence and security.
2. Sit in the driver’s seat and check that each
obligatory mirror or indirect vision device
provides an adequate view to the rear.
Note: It is not generally necessary to adjust
mirrors or devices for this check.

Does a supercharger constitute an adequate view to the rear?
