Following on from the Fiat Coupe thread I came across this:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1997-FIAT-COUPE-20V-TURB...

and in their description they state:

"The vehicle is SOLD AS SEEN and we take no responsibility for any mechanical problems that may occur when you drive out of our compound.

The vehicle was removed from the public road so we assume the vehicle is in a road worthy condition unless otherwise stated.

...Unfortunately this vehicle is in a secure storage compound and viewing CANNOT be arranged, but we will answer any questions within 24 hours."

Now they stress this fact a few times in their ad and give a detailed explanation of how they 'obtained' the car.

The thing is though they are selling lots of other cars, so does this make them a dealer to which extent you can expect a bit more than 'sold as seen'?

I think you're going to have trouble with usual 'rights' when you buy a car without a key at an auction!

Seriously!

The description is pretty clear. It would put 99.9% of buyers off therefore the you can expect it to be cheap, and you still want a warranty? Come on.

Legally I think you will find its the same as buying a car at auction where normal SoGA rules do not apply.

They look more like liquidators than dealers.

I'd guess that at police disposal auctions you will have no come back, so perhaps it's the same here.

I know, I know... personally I WOULD take it as 'you pay your money you take your chance', the description makes it perfectly clear.
Should it be complete dog though would you truly have no comeback?

I have had a quick look at their eBay profile to see where they are based and they are in Ferry lane Rainham, about a mile from where I live.
I am aware that there is a company called Redcorn, based in Ferry Lane, who recover untaxed vehicles on behalf of the DVLA and I wouldn't be supprised if there were some link between the two.
Their advert states that the vehicle was removed from the road, which would tie up nicely with being recovered for no tax and would explain the lack of keys and docs etc.
I have checked their other items on eBay, to see if there were any givaway signs lurking in the background but didn't spot any.

No, I doubt it, but I guess the purchase price reflects that.

..The advert clearly says it was removed from the road as the owner didn't pay his parking fines..

..Which would suggest did he bother to pay to maintain it? And if you haven't got a key, you can't DRIVE it away, like they state in the advert...

True, but I think (as always with ebay) some people get carried away in bidding:

Eh?

"Vehicles may have to be collected by a tow truck unless advertised as having a key and running."

The only reason to buy that would be to strip it for parts. You would be totally mental to consider buying it to actually use as a car.

They sell cars that other people have either given up on or dumped, along with cars that have been 'looked after' by people who can't pay small fines. What do the ebay fools think they are getting for their £?

Just shows how stupid the some of the public are!!

why would you not pay the fine for a car if it was impounded? only logical answer its not worth more than the fine.

I don't see the issue with buying from them. as long as you go in with your eyes open, and get a price that reflects the situation.
