I've got standard ramps but they are no good since having the car lowered. Can anyone recommend some ramps that will do the job so that they don't scrap at the front.

Its for a Focus ST3

Longer ones. smile

Not used them, but something like this? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Sports-car-long-low-angl...

You can work out whether it'll work from the figures they provide, assuming you know your ride height and overhang length.

Just make sure it's strong enough. Dropping your car onto the front splitter when the wood snaps is probably not good for it.

I'm thinking of using good quality mdf that I have lying around, that should be okay shouldnt it?

Hmm, if you really mean MDF, I'd say no - it's really not a very strong material. I'd say you want proper timber or plywood. Probably at least 20mm or something thick. Cars are quite heavy things.

Well I was thinking of just putting a couple of planks down so the car reaches the ramp with enough clearance, so once on the ramp it wont be using the mdf. Pretty sure the MDF is 25mm thick

Ah that'll be fine, I thought you means using planks of MDF resting on top of the ramps to decrease the angle of attack.

Could be worth investigating this website:
http://www.restorationramps.co.uk/
They do a set of ramps for low clearance cars, but the ramp sections are removable for easier access.

They do look good, but they seem pricey for what they are ~ £1000 + VAT. Just looks like pieces of channel welded together and not even painted. This full 4 corner manual lift isn't much more expensive....

I knocked mine up out of some left over cls studding to make the side rails, and a couple of bits of loft flooring MDF on top. I ran the CLS through the table saw for the appropriate long tapered angle so they sit flat to the floor all the way along and give the correct angle with the MDF extending onto a step on the ramps for support.

I made sure that the side rail cls were close enough together to ensure that the wheel is always on something touching the floor to prevent the tyre suddenly dropping thru the middle of them. In my case, no further apart than 10 inches, but should be closer of your front tyres are narrower.
