I was wondering the other day whether my 2006 Audi A6 Avant will be OK when they turn to digital broadcasting.
Does anybody know what is going to happen to car radio's?

I think it only affects in-car telly.

However I am sure some clever bods have sorted something to cover that off...

E38 BMW springs to mind as one with a telly.

Analogue radio will continue for a long time yet.

If there's an analogue TV in the car it will stop working.
Just drive to a different area of the country where analogue TV is still being broadcast . Simples.

I remember midnight at the turn of this century with all the computers crashing & planes falling from the sky, I remember my van didn't actually blow up, stop working or transform into a laser carrying robot. I am expecting much the same results in the coming future. smile

I was looking at an audi with a TV in it at the weekend, sure enough pure static snow.

A moment's thought said get a digibox in the glove box, sort power (inverter to original plug simplest; maybe open it up and supply 5v and 12v to relevant points) and solder up the signal feed to whatever plug's on the back of the stereo.

But how to mount the aerial......

Why stop there? You need some kind of roof mounted satellite dish, mounted on a rotating platform to keep it pointing in the right direction. get a Sky+ box so you can pause it when the traffic starts moving.

I'd suggest the Virgin Tivo box but you'd need a big reel of cable.

TV in my E39 will soon be dead, if there is a cheap/easy digital solution I will do that or just get a PS2 or something I guess! Never use it anyway..

FM won't be going anywhere for a very, very long time. There needs to be a significantly high proportion of radio users using DAB before FM is turned off. DAB sucks, so most people once they have it end up using FM anyway.
