I'm looking at the pros and cons of both wrapping and re painting. With the painting I'm not talking a full strip down but a windows out and doors off re spray. If I go to wrap the car it will still need some bodywork as there are some dodgy repairs and a couple of dents also I will have to take the car to the uk.

What car?
What colour do you want it?
What repairs does it need?

With wrapping the effects can be more varied, and can easily be removed.

I think in some ways, it depends on the car and how long you plan to keep it, etc.

A vintage Ferrari - go for a paint job.

A modified Golf - a wrap might be better.

We need more details to give a decent answer

Well it's a range rover vogue. It is currently about 6 shades of silver due to BAD repairs in the past. There are a couple of small dents that need sorting. I'll probably keep the car for the next couple of years as I'm doing a few bits to it. I've been quoted 6000 for a very good paint job in the lambo balloon White. I've seen the work and I can say it is extremely good. My concerns for wrapping are if I get a tear etc I will have to go back to the uk for repair etc. Eather way I want the lambo balloon White colour.

It sounds like a full respray might be worth the investment if the paint and body is already a bit tatty. I imagine that a wrap over dents might not look the best. If they do proper repairs on the dents first (with filler) then it would probably need a layer of paint before the wrap goes on.

6000 (Euro/£) sounds like a lot so you need to consider the value of the car to see if it makes financial sense.

I recently sold a Jaguar X-Type for just under £2000 and before selling I looked into getting some minor scratches and scuffs repainted but the quote came in at £1000. I knew I wouldn't get this money back so I didn't bother.

To be fair I'm not interested in the resale value, I want a one off car. A couple of other things to take into account is, the heat out here, we got temps above 50 for weeks in the summer, it is very dusty here so I like to was the car twice a week, the problem there is you cannot use a hose, you HAVE to use the power wash at the garage. It is low pressure though. If I paint it it is guaranteed against lifting.

Do you really need to paint all the car? How is the roof ? For example. Mate did this a while back, had the front and sides painted and had the rest mopped and polished

I think the issue is that the car is currently silver, but he wants it white, so its all or nothing.

You clearly enjoy spending money! Why not just chop it in for a better car?

A very good question and in the end one only you can answer. All I will say is I have seen a few very good wraps. Used to create very different and costly if painted, looks. My favorite was a metallic silver (mirror finish) on a Toyota QI with black figure cutout of James Bond and flames. Sorry no photo.

WTF !

I'll answer you, I want a balloon White range rover. They don't make a baloon White range rover, so I'm making one. It's just do I do it by wraping or by painting. Why does that mean I clearly love spending money ?

Do they make 'balloon white' vinyl? For the money you'll be paying on a wrap I'd expect the best quality vinyl and an excellent finish, but that will be very hard to achieve if there are dents and scratches. You would need to get those sorted before having it wrapped or it's likely to cause issues with bubbling and tearing.

I'd go for the paint job anyway.

Silver is one of the hardest to make look its not been repaired and they can often be spotted at a mile away.

If the panels are straight you could either have the whole thing re-flashed in the same silver or buy a different colour wrap altogether but you'll still have bad paint underneath.

Either change the car for a straighter one or pay for the paint. Ultimately people may think something is wrong with the car if they know you had it wrapped. I wouldn't personally buy a wrapped car.

Yeh I think paint now too as the car will need sorting before any wrap went on, the paint process will take 9 coats !

I was thinking a full respray in matte pearl White, a low key body kit and grille, 24" 3 piece wheels and a full retrim in black and White quilted leather including headlining. Should I or shouldn't I ?

I'm not paint expert....but really?

I'd have thought a light sand then tape and flash the whole thing over with a few coats would have been plenty. or are you changing colour?
