So I'm helping the mother get a new motor. There are certain criteria and I've nailed it down to a few. There are conditions tho....

1) max 2 - 3 yrs old
2) has all the refinements
3) diesel
4) perhaps quirky?
5) must have 4wd option

She likes the Tiguan. I think they're too much for what they are. She also quite likes the
Juke but I've said they're a bit of a joke really so have tried to steer her away from that (excuse the bad puns....they're unintentional).

So, my top list is (in this order)

1) Yeti
2) Rav4
3) Honda crv
4) Tiguan
5) Ford Kuga
6) mini countryman 4d

The yeti has really really grown on me and gets amazing reviews.

Anything else or anyone with personal experience of the above?

Freelander?

New shape ones are meant to be excellent and a refined drive to boot.

Should easily get one your budget.

Subaru Forester? Ticks all the boxes smile

EDIT: With a bit of haggling, you could get a NEW Hyundi ix35 Premium 2.0d 4WD.

Let her get the Tiguan - if you shove her towards anything else then it'll be your fault if there's a problem.

Are decently equipped Tiguan's available for that budget though?

I would have a Rav4 no question, you see loads on the road so there must be a good reason for that, oh and make sure it is a 4WD version, some are 2WD

Sorry, another criteria I forgot to add is that it must "sit up high" so all these standard cars on stilts (octavias etc) are out.

Mitsubishi Outlander (2008 on derv model) and its derivatives (Citroen/Peugeot)?
Switchable 2WD/4WD and chassis based on the Evo (without the gizmos) and a safe desiel motor from either VW or Peugeot.
Interior is a bit placcy but should be at the cheaper end of the spectrum 2nd hand.

I'm one of the few who likes those, but I'm not sure a £28,000, RWD BMW is quite fitting with the requirements hehe

I'd be looking at a Forester or a Freelander 2. Both great cars.

Cos my dad is paranoid like you wouldn't believe about the two days of bad snow were going to get this year and he couldn't move his Lexus off the drive last year. Not that he tried.

Edit. After a chat with the father I've told him a few simples facts (namely that he's unnecessarily adding cost to the car for 4wd) and he seems to have dropped this as a requirement.
