Tonight was the second occassion that i've come across the same Toyota Prius. You know, those cars that are meant to be really economical driven by people who care about economy and the environment.

The owner of this particular Prius chooses to hammer it off every set of lights and generally drive in the most uneconomical way possible.

Why would you buy a Prius and then do that?

I saw a Porsche once, being driven sedately, and with much caution. Why would they do that?

I have been there, first with a hire prius then my "permanent" honda civic hybrid. They both got hammered and I didn't stay in the job long...

Yep, I had to use a Honda Insult for a couple days. After 10miles of Eco driving to try it out and discovering it had worse consumption than my great big heavy, boring, Audi A4 avant 2L diesel, it got hammered everywhere for the next fews days. The best game was to try and get the battery charging/battery powering graphic as low as possible for as long as possible. Well it passed the time, in the otherwise ghastly, tinny, foul vehicle.

All the cars you're mentioning have road presence and the "pose factor" that some people crave... a prius does not have these.

Therefore buying an X5 or a Porsche has an optional function that it is equally suited for be it posing or whatever.

A Prius has only 1 function to be economical, it is not good looking or a nice place to be its not something people admire or anything you can pose in, if you are driving it stupidly you might aswell not own it.

Unless of course you just have because either

A) your company give you no choice, or

B) you don't like giving the taxman more than you have to in BIK

Clearly not, as said chappy proved. Figures can be flung to the wind and just bury the throttle!

No, it has many functions. You can pop to the shops in it. You can drive to work in it. You can drive across Europe in it. You can stick a few bikes on the roof and a tent in the boot and go off somewhere nice in it.
Pretty much like any other car really.

If I needed a boring hatch back I would consider a Prius way before some dull German thing. Cheaper, more reliable, better MPG/emissions.

And I'd probably drive it the same as I do all other cars. Sedately at times, ragging them at others.
