There are many bits on a car which are replaced when they run out or fail but which one makes the biggest difference to how the car drives

Bugger, I put 3.

Tyres and pads for me then. I went from the standard Exaltos on my 182 and while they were really good, the Goodyear GSD3s I replaced them with had a noticeable effect on the harshness of the ride and the noise level.

erm....

ok.

so you're wanting to know if a car with no fuel compared to one with some fuel will go better or not. hehe

Strange post indeed...

Depends exactly what you mean by 'how the car drives'. It won't 'drive' much at all if the clutch isn't working. And driving without brakes is fine until you want to slow down, then you might find yourself in trouble.

If you mean the 'feel' of the car, I'd say you've missed an important one - suspension bushes.

Ha, my thoughts exactly.

Clearly you mean swapping a usable item for another, then it would be tyres and brake pads without a doubt.

Assuming the question means what I think it does (ie what difference does a different make/model of consumable make, rather than how does the car drive without the consumable at all), tyres by an absolutely massive margin. Then probably brake pads.

agree with this 100% of the way. after having done so once before, i'm never going to skimp on tyres, it's just not worth it.

Thinking about it, if you'd put dampers on the list, I probably would have put them above brake pads.

for longevuty - engine oil
for evreything else tyres, they dictate the braking distance, cornering speed and acceloration as far as consumables go.

No brainer. Tyres. THey can make or break a car.

All the others - I'll replace when they wear out. Clutches might have a different feel but I'd not say that's integral to the way a car feels.

in that list id say tyres and brake discs/ pads. Not on that list however is wheel bearings i had 2 gone in my old clio and i put up with it for 4 months. When i drove it on the new ones it was soooo smooth it was great.

Dammit - I voted engine oil, assuming the thread was about what item makes the car last longest or something. Nuts.

Fuel and tyres, I suppose. Tyres being by far the most dramatic factor.
