Normally at idle the revs are perfectly flat never change nor have they since we bought it nearly a year ago.

Anyway yesterday I got in to drive the car (after it being in for an MOT) and the idel was erratic.
It has got worse to the point that there was no ommff in 2nd gear so I floored it in 1st and then came the traction control flashing and all was well.

So I'm struggling with what the fault is.

Help very much appreciated.

Sounds like a misfire. Could just need a new set of plugs if they haven't been swapped for a while, or it's not unknown for coil packs to die on the 1.8T.

hmm.
I'll check the plugs as a first port of call.

If it is coil packs - what sort of pain am I looking at???

Also is it usual for them to suddenly go or is it progressive? Its not my daily drive but I do drive it weekly.
MPG is very consistent but clearly not been able to evaluate the current tank.

Can a coil pack

I had a similar thing when I had a Cupra. One of the fancy things that click on top of the spark plugs (are these the coil packs?) wasn't seated properly. Take the cover off the top of the engine and make sure they are all pushed down properly.

Given it suddenly appeared after an MOT at main dealer I'll certainly check this out.
I really hope they have not been sneaky and changed my good coil packs for a dud set to get more trade!!! I hope that oat the case.

Yeah thats a coilpack.

I would check them, as VAGs are quite well known for going through coilpacks.

Well. New plugs and all four coil packs were changed yesterday.

Result idle is now even worse the misfire is quite evident on idle only the coils are all seated properly so what else could it be?
Im thinking idle control valve other option is MAF but as it's flew through MOT that kind if hints the MAF is fine else an emmisons fail.

I want to get this fixed ASAP

Might be a sensor failure causing this, you really need to hook it up to vagcom to check.

Have you had it on a code reader? Get the codes checked, view the live engine data if possible and go from there. If not you can just throw parts at it untill its fixed which is not the way to go about things.

Definitely needs to be hooked up to VAGCOM or VAG dealer service software to diagnose the fault properly before you go on. These things have so many damn sensors to go wrong, it will drive you nuts if you don't get the fault code to properly set about fixing it.

As mentioned get it on VAGCOM. Seatcupra.net has an area where you can request scans from those local to you that have the cable.

The MK1 Leon section there Is an infinitely better place to post this, btw.

Best option. I can't see it being maf because the emissions would have been all over plus doesn't sound like idle control valve either cos it would make the idle erratic but not misfire!!
