Hi,

Just bought a new race car and have removed the previous owners vinyl grahpics. Problem is they've left a stubborn glue residue on the paint work (bonnet mainly)which is proving hard to shift.

Any suggestions for an effective product to help get rid?

Thanks in advance

White spirit then wash it and polish it smile

Used happily on my vans to get rid of glue residue.

Sorry to slightly hijack this thread but it's pointless to start a new one as it is quite similar.

I was browsing autotrader and found myself lusting over a lovely Focus ST. Only problem was that it had 2 whacking great stripes from the bonnet to the boot. Would these be just as easy to remove as the OP's vinyls or as it was a factory fit jobby a different technique be required?

Ta!

Before you attempt to pull off any stickers a good tip is to heat the sticker up with a hair drier. You may have a good chance of removing without leaving much crud behind

Tar and glue remover. Doesn't need to be expensive stuff in small bottles either.

I sticker my car up twice a year, never had any problems removing stickers, or glue! apart from one sticker made by someone on here. Quick application of 'goo-gone' and the glue wiped off. Don't forget to re-wax the area afterwards as the glue remover will have dewaxed for you too!

I have a small old can of Clean Art made by Scotch 3M - it's brilliant for the job. Can't see it on their current website. I think for practical purposes it's the same thing as cigarette lighter fluid. Swan lighter fluid is available for pennies off ebay.

Chemical Guys New Car Solvent is good if expensive - aparrently it's just white spirit with a stabiliser stopping it evaporating so quickly though.

Thanks for all the suggestions.

I tried baby wipes and WD40 last night which worked on some areas but wouldn't shift the big area of crud on the bonnet.

Have ordered some 'sticky stuff remover' so will let you know if that works.

cheers

+1, although a fair bit of elbow grease also required

Petrol is the best solvent I have found for this. When I remove the race numbers from my car it leaves a lot of residue and the only thing that removes it easily is kitchen roll or the blue "garage wipe" stuff liberally soaked in petrol.
