Do you ever go to look at a car when there's nobody about?

As an example, im considering an evening (well, night time now) road trip 45 minutes away to check on an A4 Avant for sale.

I prefer to have a proper good poke when nobodys around. I suppose people will tell me to man up, grow balls and go at normal opening times, but i cant be arsed with salesmen until i see a car i want to buy.

Im pretty certain im going to have a nosey, shall take the torch with me, if i end up getting locked up, i'll be using PH as my alibi biglaugh

A mate does this quite often - most big dealers have security personnel on site so if you just explain why you're there I'd expect you'd have no issues...

Just a little weird??

I would out of preference never look at a car at night. Repairs cannot always be seen properly until in daylight. I usually find salesmen will give me some space to look over the car thoroughly. If they don't - there is usually something to hide and want you to rush the decision........

Obviously you would want to see the car in daylight as well, but traditional street lighting (the orangey kind) can often enhance any panel which has been resprayed.

I often wander around franchised dealer forecasts when they are closed. You can get a good look at things without people bothering you and without you wasting the time of salesmen.

Why not. Best time to assess the car for yourself away from a pestering salesman full of waffle following you about.
I've done it loads of times. Some I've walked away from after a few seconds. A couple I've bought.

Well, ive just got back, and im glad i went.

Luckily the car was right at the edge, with lots of strretlighting casting over it. Looks pretty mint, with the exception of two large chips on the drivers door.

Now its time to pluck the courage to consider spending a load of cash biggrin

Having read a few recent PH threads, I thought dealers were full of people wandering around in broad daylight with pockets full of cash to spend... and then having to leave because they were totally ignored.

Funny old world.

Locked cars in the dark often do.

What have you actually learned? Simply that it doesn't have unrepaired crash damage.

You've still got to go back to have a proper look, and probably back again if you want to buy it.
