Hi folks, Was just wondering if this (slow) puncture would be classed as an unrepairable sidewall puncture?
Was a little surprised to be told it was, they didn't have my size in stock so said I would try elsewhere.

Cheers.

Yes, it looks to be too close to the edge, you can only repair in the centre band:

To my well trained eye, yes it probably is outside of the repairable area. Make sure the garage show this using a gauge that shows the repairable width of the tyre, as it looks like a close call.

Out of interest, what type are they? I don't recognise the tread.

Its a continental, on an 11 plate Transit van (the works), Not sure of exact size at the mo, its raining otherwise I'd pop out and see.

Kinda hard to tell, but how much tread is actually left on that?
Its pretty much as new, only done 8000 miles.

Erm, that is definitely repairable.
Get yourself a tyre plugger kit and DIY... http://www.amazon.co.uk/Silverline-Tyre-Repair-Kit...

They say it's only a temporary repair, but that is just to cover their asses. Once those plugs are in, they do not come out.

By all means recommend a second opinion, but I'm really not sure from the photo you can state it is 'definitely repairable' it looks to be on the border, and the angle of the photo doesn't show the sidewall position very well, but i'm really not sure it is repairable.

If the OP would like a second opinion from the photograph, I will more than happily forward it to someone more knowledgeable than myself.

Thanks for the offer but the pic was really just out of curiosity really, the work pays for the upkeep of the van so its not coming out of my pocket.
At the same time I didn't want the garage to take advantage and just charge for a new tyre (cynical moi???)
Thanks for the links to the plugs, if it were my own I would probably give it a bash.
Oh and the tyre size is 215/75/R16, as asked earlier.
Cheers

The problem with repairing a puncture close to the sidewall is that the mushroom shaped plug will be distorted. The tyre gets taken off the rim, the inside is keyed and then the plug is inserted with glue, the head of the plug remaining inside the tyre is usually the size of a 50p piece. If it is close to the sidewall, the loadings on the tyre will generally cause the glue to fail, so although the plug is very unlikely to be able to fall out (obviously the air pressure inside the tyre will keep it forced into the hole anyway), no tyre place will repair it, they will all tell you to replace it.
