Fiesta Mk5 (?) gearbox remap. Possible?

Swmbo has a fiesta, bought over here beginning of this year. It is a 1.6s, top of range over here but only available with auto box. The problem is this.... the damned gearbox will not kick down and when it does you get a load of revs... eventually, and finally ( when the overtaking gap is long gone) the damned thing accelerates. So the question is, can you remap a gearbox? If so any chance you can get the board/chip in the uk or do you actually have to take the car to the tuner? Thanks in advance
