Anyone ever been involved in exporting a car from the UK to France when the car involved was originally an import to the UK from Japan. I'm swapping numerous emails with a French guy who is trying to get all the paperwork sorted to import my GTO but his English is limited and we are struggling to identify a CEE number for the vehicle. Can anyone advise if this is the Model No. or the Chassis/VIN No. or something else entirely.

A quick Google found this

CEE would appear to be an acronym for "Central and Eastern European (CEE)"

This is the results of the Google search.

Not sure what kind of number they are after, but "CEE" on french documents will probably stand for "Communauté économique européenne", so it's bascially some EU related number that's needed.

Unless things have changed recently you can't register a Jap import into France as it doesn't have European type approval. Mitsubishi will not issue a COC for your car I'm afraid.

I would be tempted to agree with this, my Dad exported a Eunos (MX5) from the UK to France, and cannot get a certificate of conformity (And they were kind of available there in MX5 guise). A model that was never available in France may cause even more problems!

Hope your chap sorts it out, he may have a friendly local official! (As far as I can work out, having it 'signed off' literally means that, so if the person signing is happy, the car gets licensed!)

I can give him a bell for the latest update if it helps? But he has been trying for nearly a year now...

I think that's right.

For instance, in UK there are two flavours of Corvette,
A. Euro cars originally sold in UK/Europe with full European type approval, or
B. USA cars which people have personally imported from USA and put through the IVA/SVA process

So far as I'm aware category A can be exported from UK to continental Europe (COC available) but category B cars cannot (no COC available).
