Mileage check, legit?
Discussion
Hi, I wondered if anyone knows anything about this. I bought a year old car with 6k miles from a main dealer, ran it for about 8 months and added another 6k miles then tried to sell it and to be honest I struggled. However a main dealer (different one) responded to my advert and made an offer to buy it for his stock and I agreed, money changed hands and car goes, no problem. This morning about a month later I received a letter from VMC Mileage check asking me to confirm details of mileage where and when I bought/sold it etc to "reduce the practice of clocking". I know exactly all of the details during my ownership but not before. If I complete this am I liable for anything that happened before I bought it. I never did an HPI check when I bought it, well it was from a main dealer so assumed it was all ok. Your advice or experience would help

I dont want to sound patronising but how in any circumstance could you be liable for something that had nothing to do with you. Wasnt owned by you or or in your posession at the time? If anything filling information in like this is a good thing.
Thanks for that, point accepted, and I absolutely agree regarding providing the information requested but since I've never heard of this sort of check I wondered if it's commonplace or has something about the car prompted it? Is there a question about its history or was it clocked before I bought it? I paid top dollar for a low mileage car so wouldnt be too happy with the main dealer if there's something wrong with it.
