Kia Sorento. I dont get it.
Discussion
The dealer where I bought the MX5 back in the spring also sells Kia.
My next big car will be some sort of 4x4/estate so I had a sniff around the new Sorento.
I quite liked it. Nothing special but it did the job in a Travel Inn sort of way. Decent kiit, good warranty, though I wasnt overly taken on looks.
But the price! 30K for the spec I wanted. I try not to be a badge snob. I have 2 Mazdas so its clear that a posh brand is not my top priority. But 30k for a Kia?
A few months down the line, and used ones are still hovering round the high 20s.
I imagined big discounts on new but with strong used prices, I guess not.
So are they just damn good cars? Am i missing something?

So they are the new Japanese car then? I had hoped for a top spec nearly new price to be around 20k
Im not planning on going off road but as my cars have to spend half their lives in the city and the other half on rural A Roads and the odd farm track (Plus snow) i need something thats a bit more rugged than a normal estate.
My present big car a Mazda Cx7 does the job pretty well. I baulked at paying 26k for that and the massive depreciation early on was quite scary. I would have another one but this time a diesel, but I understand Mazdas going to stop importing them.

I couldn't believe it when I saw a Chrysler Grand Voyager on a main delears forecourt for £36,000.
I do kind of like them as I have a bit of a soft spot for American cars but sorry who in their right mind would pay £36,000 for one.
I wonder how much sir suga pays for his fleet pf them I do kind of like them as I have a bit of a soft spot for American cars but sorry who in their right mind would pay £36,000 for one.
A colleague of mine has the top spec sorrento. I too would have turned my nose up at it especially at that price but, in the flesh, it's actually a really nice car that's well put together.
The sound of a tin can when the doors shut has gone, the leather is very nice and well stitched.
There really is nothing that makes you think 'budget' when you're sat in the cabin.
I think Kia have made more of a leap than Hyundai in a much shorter time.

The trick is to pick the 'optimum' spec from their standard cars and run with that. Over spec'ing a car is a depreciation disaster. My next big car will be some sort of 4x4/estate so I had a sniff around the new Sorento.

Also, big discounts when new and strong used prices on any car are mutually exclusive.

- see Vauxhall/Ford.Kia have certainly done a lot for their residuals with the 7 year warranty combined with vastly improved product quality with their newest models. In 7 years time these cars will be about 50p though

Unfortunately, while they have a seven year warranty, seven years of servicing at a Korean brand main dealer is more expensive than BMW or Audi (as we found out with a Hyundai Getz.) The theory says you can service outside of a main dealer. I'd like to see the reception to a warranty claim in five years for a car without main dealer servicing.

What's the service plan prices ?No idea now. 'Er indoors had a Hyundai Getz with a 5yr warranty. For its 4yr service, we were quoted nearly £450. It was a 1.1 ltr engine, not a V8. For that princely sum, we got an oil and filter change and lots of checking. Took it to an Indy who did it for £80. I'm sure we'd have had fun with a warranty claim
