Not entirely sure how they work so can someone clarify?

Basically the GF's insurance is due this month, in the last years shes had an at fault claim and in the last three years an sp30.

She now hows 2 years no claims.

I'm also insured on her car.

Current quotes seem to be coming in at around the 800 quid mark for us both on her car.

I'm also due to insure my MX5 in the next month or so - I usually pay about 400 quid with a specialist for it. I'm the only driver on this - the GF doesn't drive it.

Anyway stuck the details into Admiral to get a multicar quote and it came back at about 930 quid total.

Do both drivers earn seperate no claims?

Are these multicar policies really this cheap?

Yes both drivers accrue no claims bonus, We had one last year but since I now have a jap import the renewal came through as twice what other qoutes have been.
Didnt have any problems while we used it though.

Sometimes they are cheaper sometimes they are not.

Still treated as separate policies so each driver accrues NCB

Re: NCB - two sets of NCB will accrue, but to who depends if the two cars are in two different drivers' names...in which case it's not strictly a multi-car policy, just two policies with the same insurer.

Have insured myself, wife and kids with about 10 different insurance company's over the years. I WILL NEVER EVER USE ADMIRAL AGAIN. There is not enough time in the day to explain all of there cock ups and no fault loading on my sons policy. Any one else think think same about them?

Have four cars on an admiral multicar policy and it works out a lot cheaper than individual policies. My car is a Jap import but is standard so there was no problem insuring it. Each of us gets our own no claims and only problem is when one of you wants to leave the policy as it can put the cost of the others up. Tried to swap my GTO for a modified GTR recently and they wouldn't touch it!

Yes, each driver earns their own NCB.

Yes, in my case, it did work out a lot cheaper for two cars. I took the mulit-car policy out in June on my car and had SWMBO's car added as a second car a week ago. They gave the quote for both cars back in June - full year for mine and a pro-rated one for the other car up to a June 2012 renewal (they also provided the equivalent full year price for the second car). They 'guaranteed' the premium for the second car and have just taken the payment for it and added it to the policy. So far so good.

The only downside is that you have to pay for both cars at the same time at the renewal date but that is also a benefit as, if you want to escape at renewal time you can easily then revert to insuring each vehicle independently.

Assuming we are claim free I will be interested to see if the premium increases significantly next year!

Only problem you may have is all the vehicles on multi car must be kept (not sure if they must be registered )at the same address according to admiral multi car rules

so you may need to change girlfriends address to yours

check the wording carefully

We do live together so no problems on the address front.

The mx5 is a Jap import but they seem fine with that.

Was just surprised at how much cheraper than insuring the two cars seperately it was.

You no longer even need to live at the same address, I'm on my parent's multicar and don't live with them, Admiral are aware and are fine with this.

We have four cars on the Multicar, at it's peak it was five, we're making a massive saving on the cost of individual policies. As a family I'd guess at about £1K a year saved between us.

They were cheap for the first year but went up alot on the 2nd. Everyone is at this game, once your signed up they put the rates up. My last insurer (Direct Line) did this for years but I found if I cancelled and renewed on-line it was cheaper (they fixed it so it doesn't work anymore).

Admiral still works out OK in the 2nd year if you go to their website and re-do the quote, I think you have to change the name of the Policy Administrator to one of the other drivers in order for it to work.
