Another what car.
Discussion
This is theoretical at the moment but could become reality for me in the next 6 months.
600 miles per week commute to work. The car would be used for commuting to work and probably very little else.
Criteria:
1. Car must be new or nearly new, certainly within warranty.
2. Minimal ownership costs (servicing, fuel etc)
3. Residuals not so important as car will be driven into the ground. Probably.
4. This is a cost saving excercise so as much as I would like one, I don't need a £20K BMW or even a £15K one.
I'm looking at small cars. Do i look at something small and Italian (Fiat Panda?) or go with one of the Korean alternatives?
Any thoughts?
All I have decided so far is my Yaris, although ideal as it's doing a reliable 55MPG, already has 87K on it and the wife loves it. The Lexus would be ideal but with 156K will probably need some money spent on it soon and I couldn't fuel it's sub 25MPG thirst at those sorts of mileages.

I also cannot get my head round why you would buy a brand car to drive in to the ground.
Save your cash, buy something a few years old, extend warranty if you feel you need it, but in my limited experience you rarely come out quids in.

It's a cost-saving exercise but you want a new car? What's wrong with a 5-10-15 year old diesel/small petrol?
Still doing all the calculations. My initial thoughts of something new or nearly new is because 5 years of ownership will equate to possibly 150K miles. It has alot to do with the potential hassle factor of a car that alreayd has a few miles on it.v8will said:

Would it not work out cheaper for you to buy something a year or two old and then change every few years then?Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
