Although I know that there are some big-hitters out there with V10 and even V8 engines, when someone says supercar I automatically think of a thumping big V12. A big V12 seems like the height of decadence, although a bit of a dying breed now. So what would your pick be? Ferrari? Lamborghini? Aston? I don't think Jaguar does V12s anymore. How about Mercedes or Audi or Bentley (Continental GT)? (Or is that a W12 whatever that is)?

My choice would probably be a Ferrari 550 Maranello or a Le Mans Aston Martin DB9.

With regards to other engines, I love a BMW straight six, preferably in an M-car such as an M3 or 1M or a V8 in an Aston Martin Vantage or a 1960s Mustang.

So what's your favourite V12 car and what's your dream engine in general and what car would you have it in?

275GTB or the 5ltr Jag put in the 13.

The only decent German 12 even in with a shout is Porsche's flat 12.

Enzo for me, from the sound.

That said, I have a BMW 850 on the list to tick off the "owned a V12" box.

Erm, isn't the McLaren's engine German?

I also think Pagani's 7.3L AMG V12 might hail from the land of the sausage. They aren't bad.

the merc sl70 or sl73 AMG v12, I think its exactly the same v12 as in the early zonda's.

Also very special is the ferrari 6.0 v12 in the 599gtb and the Enzo

Hard to pin point a favourite V12 car. There's so many.

The best sounding by far is the Ferrari 250 GT I went in. But I'm a sucker for Aston Martin and their cars. The DBS in particular, that's a fantastic car! But there's also the Ferrari Enzo too! The one I went in had straight pipes and that was insane. Oh I don't know!

I do like the BMW V12 that powers the McLaren F1 or the AMG powered Pagani Zonda V12.

I'm biased admittedly, but I do love the Jag V12 for its smoothness and seamless power delivery. That it could also be tweaked, put in the back of the XJR Le Mans cars and win is testament to its durability and basic design qualities. And the sound of those XJR-9LMscloud9 '88 was a good year to choose for my first visit to Le Mans. It wasn't too shoddy in the Walkinshaw XJS either.

Getting in the XJS and hearing the starter whine, then the V12 firing into life is always an occasion. Floor the throttle, let the gearbox kickdown, and the deep rumble from the exhausts lets you know that there's a very special engine underneath.

If for one minute you think either the BM 12 or the Merc 12 stand comparison with the damn near perfection of that Fez 12 or the Jag then you hail from a very different part of planet Petrol than I do. Not to mention that Pork's grandad Flat 12, 20yrs their junior would regard both of those rival sausage power plants aswell...lacklustre.

The McLaren F1 engine seems to be widely acclaimed as just about the greatest roadcar engine, period. But seeing as I have never even sat in one let alone driven one, I'll have to go off noisey youtube clips. So my vote is for the Ferrari F50's 4.7 or the Ferrari Columbo V12 in just about any configuration. The Lambo V12 sounds quite pleasant as well.

Any of the following:

I have only been hurled up the road by the middle one however, so it's extra special for that and in conjunction with the Rolls Royce Merlin, entirely responsible for my love of V12s.

I'm also very fond of inline sixes and cross-plane crank V8s, the lumpier and wooflier the better.

confused

Seriously? I mean, I'm not saying the either of your suggestions are poor, but to dismiss the merc V12 and in particular the McLaren F1 V12...?
