obviously a question to people who have owned more then one car, has anyone still got their first ever car and why??

I've heard stories of people (usually women tbh) who were so attached with their first car that they would go on to keep it for literally a decade despite easily being able to upgrade.

One particular story where a friend actually sold her car and then a few weeks later went to buy her crappy 1.0 Fiat Punto back from the new owners as she missed it too much laugh (she had a lovely audit tt replacement bud didn't care)

I've had a 1.3 Mk2 Astra for 11 years and technically passed it onto the wife as soon as she passed her test 8 years ago. She still drives it daily.

I waited until I was 23 (no need or cash for a car before then) - at 17 I was tootling around in my dad's Volvo 240 Estate mainly. hehe

I've still got my first car 1978 Mini 1000. Bought it when I was 15 so I have had it for 13 years now. Restored it three years ago but has just been tucked up in the garage for the last couple of years.

Would make sense to sell it really but can't bring myself to do it as have had it so long.

Me. Was my runaround before uni, holidays during uni, and then I moved to London and don't really need one now, I might as well save the money for something special rather than constant upgrades just to have a car :-)

Me. Bought a 1976 Dolomite Sprint as my first car, drove it till it got rusty and stopped working, then set about restoring it. Still going 5 years later...

Still got mine! 30 years and counting! 1963 Spitfire. My parents bought if for me when I was 14, they paid 60 pounds for it. My dad and I got it on the road again (had been a proper barn find) but sadly he died before he got to see me drive it. I could never sell it.

I got for my 15th Birthday a 1968 Morris Minor Traveller, restored it and had it on the road for when I passed my test at 17.

I stopped driving when I got a new car for my 21st I have had it 22 years now and really, really should get it back on the road or at least out of the barn it has been sat in for the last few years.

The wife goes before the Morris, and yep I have told her this smile

My bro's first car (the A plate one on the left) rebuilt from the chassis up but almost completely original and my first car (the B plate) a hand me down from my dad who's owned it since the dawn of time (i.e. 1972ish). These vehicles are both about fifty years old and are still fully roadworthy.

How the heck could your parents "force" you to scrap it. Do they also keep you tied up in basement, only letting you out at weekends. confused

Yes she's still here. After 22 years and more than 200,000 km I am not permitted to sell as she is now 'part of the family'.

Other cars have come and gone, Nissan, BMW, Merc etc. The one reason for keeping the TVR all that time was simply to have something reliable while all the others broke down tongue out

Got ym first car when I was 14/15. A £120 Renault 5. Sold it a few months later after being recomissioned on the road, and the engine went bang. Now somewhere in a scrapyard frown. As crap as it was in terms of reliability, it was very comfortable and only had 28,000 miles in its 20 year life.
