7 day insurance with every HPI check

Morning all,
At the weekend I will be picking a car up on behalf of a mate (it is in their name), for this I am looking to sort out some short term cover.
The cheapest option appears to be the 7 day cover I'd get if I were to perform a HPI check, has anyone used this before? Do you know if the car needs to be in my name?
I'm planning on phoning around later in the week, thought it wise to check here too.
I can't have the car added to my current policy as I have a classic one.
