Hi All,

Had the wheels of my M6 stolen recently - Ins co are being a bit of a pain, i knew straight away it should have gone to the garage of my choice but hey ho.

brief scenario is is this:

Car was fitted with:

Conti Sp2 front 40% worn
Mich PS2 Rear 50% worn

as new M6 blade wheels.

Ins co have said that i need to contribute to 50% of the tyre costs only.

Which is fair enough, except the garage cannot get hold of the PS2's (that and the Insurance are insisting now that i HAVE to evidence the Tyres to fit like for like, which i can) so garage have suggested they fit the Potenza S001 - Cost £1200.00

I can get them for £960 inc vat and delivery from Mytyres.

OK, call me a pedant, but i cant really justify the extra £100.00 contribution and have told the Ins co this - do i swallow the £100.00 on top of the £1000 its already costing me (£500 excess and £480 contribution) or stick to my guns and not let the garage and Ins co take the piss ?

Thoughts and options appreciated smile

Depending on your premium it could be unlikely long term to be worth claiming for something under a £1000.
Would most people have bought replacement wheels and not bothered with their insurer?

But a set of genuine M6 alloys will be a lot more than £1k. £1k is for the tyres and the wheels are likely to be £3k or so at a guess.

Essentially what you're asking for is for the insurance company to cut you a cheque for the parts and to have a mobile tyre fitting company come out and put the wheels on.

I suppose a used set could be had for £1k or so, plus maybe £250 to refurbish, and maybe £800 for a set of "something Korean but not a ditchfinder." So even being ultra conservative with costs, this car can't be fixed without using "Innit" replicas and ditchfinders for less than 2 bags.

wheels are 900+vat each - its a £5K bill so hence need for ins co.

Buy the tyres from etyres or blackcircles, supply them to the garage at £1,200 and get some of your excess back with the profit. Otherwise try and find out who the claims manager is at the insurance company and have a chat with them.
