I've often wondered if the offenders in police car chases ever get away, or maybe they just never show these clips on the american police chase shows. Well how about if the offender was a professional racing/stunt driver - would the outcome be any different? - like the chap in this video!

One of the best youtube videos I've seen! The guys car control is incredible, and 'never say die attitude' lol. I reckon if he was in a faster car he might have escaped biglaugh

A lot of racing drivers have slow, dull road cars (David Coulthard had/has a smart car ffs) so they'd probably get caught.

Why do you need a racing driver. A 15 year old kid in an E30 M3 will do.

Hell the kid was that good they edited the footage to make the police look like they caught him.

Consider Lewis Hamilton in his SL65 - he would probably crash before the police had a chance to take him off the road.

I saw that video a little while ago - nice bit of editing there to pull the wool over the eyes of the yank viewers! I love the way they make the Camaro police car sound like a sports car when it "effortlessy matches the BMWs pace" etc, on a straight road. If there had been some corners the kid would have pulled an even bigger lead on them!

Only if Massa happened to be out for a Sunday drive at the same time.

I'd say that a willingness to risk killing other people is the main attribute needed to get away.

Whilst watching "Police, Camera, Alastair Stewart's Pissed Again" type programmes and seeing fleeing "perps" biting off more than they can chew and losing it big-style, the darker side of my brain sometimes thinks how I would fare trying to outrun the rozzers in the Caterham.

I am not for one minute suggesting that I am a "racing driver", just pondering how well I would do in a chase with a diesel Astra.

Have you ever wondered why you never see any US footage of proper european sports cars being chased by US cop cars? Probably because they haven't even got the camera turned on before the 911 Turbo or what ever has made off.

This. Like CW7, I have often wondered how I'd get on. I reckon I'd be unwilling to throw my car the wrong way around a roundabout, unwilling to take to a pavement with people on it, unwilling to fly through red lights and hope there wasn't a big fat lorry coming across the junction.

My car is hardly fast, I'm not the fastest driver on the roads but the biggest issue is that I'm just not reckless enough with the lives of others. I'd be a st getaway driver.

OP - I give you 2/10 for that vid.

Now THIS is better. The guy in the Z3M thinks the police bike is genuine, but its actually Ghostrider. So we have a pro driver trying his best to evade the "Police" on a sports bike.

Dunno about the Yanks, but the British traffic coppers (I've met, at least) are usually pretty nails, and know how to chuck a car around.

My car is quick, I know how to drive, but I'd not fancy my chances.

Not that I'd even contemplate it outside of GTA4!!! ; )

I used to have the 'Runaway in Stockholm' series on DVD. IIRC the guy who did these 'films' was known as Mr.X. There were 4 I think, where he was somewhere in Europe (original one was in Stockholm, hence the title) and purposefully getting a high end police chase before making his getaway.

I was about 13 when I watched them, I think I remember the vehicles were Honda NSX, Escort Cosworth, an Evo (I think, maybe the VI?), but I can't really remember all that well.

I wonder if you can still get them. Anybody know of these?

Depends, theres usually a lot of traffic, pedestrians and right angled corners on public roads. Doesnt really matter how good a driver you are, they arent going to budge any quicker for one driver than another.

I feel for the guy in the video though. Its a bit pathetic that despite a good driver, a mustang cant outrun a big old crown vic.

Was one of those videos not a 600bhp Supra?

I'm in work at the moment so can't find it but once watched a police chase with I believe a mustang, the police pit maneuvered him twice each time he went with the spin and corrected the car.
Looked amazing yesbiggrin

No he doesn't. If 'one of Sweden's top racing drivers' (that I also doubt) was genuinely trying to get away he wouldn't waste time drifting about. He could have ended that 'chase' (read being a for fifteen minutes of internet fame) in seconds if he really wanted to get away.

I always like it when there's a police chase and the perp can really drive.
