What type of roads will you be driving on? I used to do a mix of short trips, fast drives and a bit of motorway and used to get 26.6mpg on the OBC.

was doing mixed driving, between 250 and 500 miles a week, once it was warmed up I ran it everywhere in sport mode (290bhp as it was remapped and had the Remus exhaust), mpg average - 31mpg, Did have it up to well over 40mpg on a motorway run.

I'd say in the region of £20-£25 a week for 100 miles, depending on how you drive it.

I'd suggest though if you're worrying about the petrol costs for 100 miles a week in an Astra, you might be stretching yourself a bit too far..

Sorry about the late reply.

My previous car was a C2 VTR and I was putting 30-40 quid a week petrol in.
Mainly urban driving with the odd 5minute motorway drive.
Mixed driving of steady with a little bit kick now and again.

I do a 6 mile round trip to work with an extra 4 roundtrip to girlfriends.
Occasional cruise now and again so I'd guess 100 a week.

Cheers

That would suggest that your C2 was doing, at best, 20mpg. Unless your mileage used to be higher than 100 miles a week of course.

I'm crap with MPG mate.
I put 40 quid in, drove it pretty steady and got 167 miles before I had to top up?

At max, what would I be paying for 200 miles p/w?

If a VXR were to return 20mpg, you'd be spending £60 per week to do 200 miles based on £6 per gallon. I wouldn't imagine fuel returns on a VXR would be that bad, so that would be worst case scenario.

200/167 X £40 = £47.90

Thanks bud.

I shouldn't worry about MPG when looking at "hot hatches"but I've been saving for ages to get something I love.
Focus ST is ruled out. I drove my mates, like me Granny and it returned 18mpg !

So? doea that mean most vxr's average 18mpg for day to day driving? not a chance in my experience.

167 miles to a tank yikes

-edit - re-read the post.

On another note though, 18mpg for an ST driven sensibly is a bit dramatic. 26 seems to be the norm for the majority of my customers.

There's one in the family, driven gently and returning 19mpg on average. Has done so from new.

I am shocked. Is that mainly urban or rural or both?
Completely different from my experience.

Admittedly 90% of its mileage is urban, its still shocking though. It gets used as the hack to Silverstone every year for the GP and does early 20s on that long motorway run. Seems to be the price you pay for that engine - it is a stonker of a unit, no question.
