Hi all,
I am looking at replacing two of my cars with one large 4x4.
I am split between these three but interested in people's opinions as to which they would recommend...
- 2005/06 Range Rover Sport 2.7 TDV6
--> I just love the look and presence these cars have
- 2007 Mercedes ML (Mk2) 320CDI
--> Probably the best all round car
- 2007 BMW X5 (Mk2) 3.0D
--> The most economical out of the three

The X5 beats the Merc all day long as the best all round car. I dont like the image of the RR Sport. Drove a Merc ML, GL, Q7 and an X5 - the X5 was superb. Loved mine to bits.I am looking at replacing two of my cars with one large 4x4.

My x5 averaged 28mpg. The 'efficient dynamics' version came out around Nov 2007 and is easier to tax and quite a bit more fuel efficient - mine was pretty much the last of the pre ED cars.
Thanks for your comments and votes guys.
I do have an estate at the moment and is one of the cars I am thinking of selling to part fund the 4x4. The main reason for looking at 4x4 is because the wife wants one. In the past, for about 10 years straight we had a Honda CRV and then a Freelander 2 and she now wants to go back to a 4x4.
The three I have listed are the ones we both like.
The normal RR is aso a nice car but I believe rides even higher than the Sport which may be a touch too much
Daemon, when you compare teh Mk1 X5 to ML, which ML the previous Mk 1 or the current Mk 2 ?

I did consider the Cayenne but it is a fair bit thirstier than the three I have listed. The Diesel Cayenne is too new and hence outside my price range

the ML is always the last choice
the XC90 is generally first choice followed closely by the Q7 depending on the type of run.

Toureg V10 TDi?
Not a bad call. I was behind one the other day and it kept flying off the lights, had some serious power for a big car....but there is something I can't quite put my finger on with regard to its styling that I don't like.I thnk I would rather have a Hyundai Santa Fe over the VW
