When these were announced and subsequently made available for sale there was a lot of talk concerning how desirable and sought after they were, and that this would remain the case for quite a while, and that a prospective owner should count themselves fortunate to have the chance to own one etc etc.

If this were the case, how come, a matter of weeks later, there are 18 of them for sale on BMW's used car website?

Surely they can't all be ex-demonstrators?

Or are they a bit crap, and people have realised this and got rid a bit sharpish?

Are the 'early adopters' now going to be punished financially for their inability to apply the principle of delayed gratification?

I ask, because I am thinking that I might get one.

Speculators bought them hoping for a quick buck had to buy em and are now selling them. Simple really.

I can't see why people would think they are bad. I think they got good reviews on the whole. Would make a good used purchase though

I note that the 1M has done extremely well in Evo's Car of the Year event, doing better than one of its key rivals the Cayman R (another car that I am considering). This may help with shifting a few.

You better not be buying the one that went past me last Wednesday night , never heard valve bounce like that for years.

DAN were the last three letters on the n.p.

Does sound like speculation.

A bit like concert tickets that are sold out but available in their hundreds on eBay for twice or three times the face value...

All those people whose friends suddenly can't make it, the day the tickets go on sale...

Actually on reflection this doesn't make a great deal of sense.

Surely for a speculator trying to make a profit, selling back/part exchanging to the BMW dealer is not the best way to go about it.

Have you ever attempted to part exchange a BMW against another one? Their offers for even supposedly desirable models are of significant comedy value.

It would make much more sense to stick the cars in the classifieds.

On reflection I bet many of them are demonstrators.

How much is the cheapest one now?

You should try to PX one for a new Mercedes/Jaguar/Audi/etc where the competitor's dealer will try to get it underwritten by a BMW garage....they really do offer silly money.

Perhaps they will come down as we start to get closer to Christmas, especially as there does seem to be a glut of them for sale presently.

All modern BMWs (especially M Cars) seem to be suffering from significant depreciation at present - V8 M3s and V10 M5/M6s appear rather cheap at the moment.

Patience will out.

All BMW staff get a company BMW car.
They swap them after 6 month or 6k miles.
It keeps the BMW used car market full of lots of nice cars.

I'd guess that all of these are ex staff cars.
Low mileage, pristine high spec cars.

Apparently it's a Tax thing for BMW, and it helps to keep the depreciation figures for BMW artificially high/

That could be the case, but wasn't the 1M supposed to have sold out really quickly? I'd be surprised if BMW would be giving away such a desirable model to staff, even for a few months.

Something's not right here.

I think that BMW and their dealers have overstated the demand for the 1M to encourage new purchases without discount.

The market is going to wake up to this and I suspect a big drop in values over the coming months. If I'd bought one new at/near list I would be getting nervous.

I seriously doubt 1m cars get given out as BMW company cars. Dealer principles would struggle to get one on demo stock let alone some no mark from BMW finance in Hook.
