After just reading an e39 m5 thread it sounded very familiar to me. The whole idea of having a car you're really happy with but still thining about changing it is something i seem to do quite a bit with mine too.

Does anyone else get this and if so, can you explain why we do it? I love the car i have now, it does what i want it to better than any other car in the price range, but i still find myself just toying with changing, almost "for the sake of it".

I know what you mean, closest I came was last month when I came within a signature of chopping my T350 in for a black 355. Trouble is I wanted to sleep on it, which meant driving home in the TVR and feeling just how alive it felt under me. Couldn't do it and I still have the TVR.

There are 2 cars i really fancy that i'd need to sell my m3 evo for. One's a lancer evo and the other a cerbera. On the one hand i dont want to have never oned one, but when i get in the m3 it just gets on with everything so crisply and with so little fuss that i cant justify it. I've even come away from wanting an e46 m3, but i keep coming back to the idea of chopping in.

Perhaps i shoud get a pet or something.

I do it all the time. However, I can never bring myself to let it go.

The Mondeo on the other hand....

Ive wanted to get rid of my Focus ST for an Integra Type R DC5 for a while, it was the car I orignally wanted to get but the insurance on an import was too expensive at 23 y.o, if I could get it at all. Now i'm 25, I would love the car but I like my ST a lot and dont want to sell. Also would love an M3, around 2004 age (cant remember the E number). There is a really nice 2006 CS on PH thats quite local. Its just the running cost and insurance that will put me off.

Should realy stop looking in the classified ad's as there are a few lovely cars I want that are now in my car purchase price budget. The bargin barge thread is even worse. Could jsut see myself in a 2004 Jag with a lovely supercharger.

I purchased my Focus as an emergency car with a few to changing it after a very short time. I've looked at a few cars since but still have the Focus 7 months on as it does everything I NEED it to do.

Y282 i am exactly like you, i have an e46 330ci that has been nothing but reliable.
It's fast, comfortable, gorgeous looking.. it is all the car i ever need really but i keep looking at e36 M3's, almost daily.

My man maths has made me realise i dont even have to fork out any extra money as they are both of similar value currently.

I dont need an M3 i just want one.

If you do ever scratch the itch and yours isnt an SMG give me a shout!

You're not exactly like me, you're probably taller.

Regards the e36 m3 vs e46 330, it's well trodden ground but i went 36 as it's a rarer shape now (in good standard nick) and a much faster, more involved drive. Admittedly it doesnt look as pricey as an e46, but i kind of like the subtlety. If you can call estoril subtle, that is.

Cos you cant change your wife as easily wink

I love my car to bits, but in all honesty, there are some flaws about it which I would like to improve upon. And sometimes your needs and requirements just change, or circumstances change that help you justify changing cars.

It is the curse of the Petrol head.
My Mk4 Astra is the same. It does everything I need it to do and is within my technical range to work on completely. No rust to worry about, parts are cheap, reasonable MPG and performance etc. Which is exactly why I bought it 2 and a bit years ago.

But then I have a really big Saab 900 T16 itch to scratch. Or a BMW 328.

Dammit. Is there a way to switch this off for a bit to save money first?

I am exactly the same, I have a 7 month old RCZ!!

Basically I had TVR's etc, found them a little to harsh and to much hassle (warming up etc), had a few other cars and missed the performance.

Came across the FRS and thought it had all the plus points of power & practicality. It wasn't enough power and the MPG/Insurance was very high for what it was. Had a good deal chopping it in with the view to cheap motoring before buying my ultimate Car, a Nissan GTR.

Trouble is, running costs of the GTR scare me, so my next car may either be an E92 M3, or more likely a C63, I have decided insurance & petrol will be worth it and the only reason I would want to change from a C63 is the burning desire to own the GTR.

From the GTR, it would then be a 997T or Audi R8 as these come down, god knows where from there...

I tend to do this. But while there might be some repeated contemplation of one particular car sometimes for a long period, I find that the actual car I end up buying will be something different, decided on when not really looking or thinking about it, and will happen quite quickly.

Im currently thinking about changing my saxo thats reliable(ish) cheap to run and fast enough to be fun without getting me into trouble for an MR2 (pref turbo) only thing stopping me is the fiancee and running costs. I love the little saxo as well.
