Received a new red log book in the post this morning - it's supposed to replace the current blue/green type one I have.
Had a chat with my friends this lunchtime and none of them have received one or even read about it in the papers. I did a PH search and no topic came up.

The Q & A leaflet I got is from the DVLA. Main query here -

Q Why have you sent me a new V5C?
A We are replacing all existing blue V5Cs. The new certificate is being introduced following the theft of a number of blank blue V5Cs....

My friends haven't received one, my car is 2006 and inbetween their cars in terms of age. Surnames, mine is inbetween theirs alphabetically. Garage where sold - two of the others have cars from the same garage, one older and one newer than mine. None of us have read about it in the papers - which with a possible renewal of all log books is a massive expense.

Anyone else received one?

I thought they were just getting renewed as and when people change their cars, reg numbers or address details, so there's no actual increased cost as such.

no I've got sent two or three so far - for vehicles that I've had ages, no change in keeper.

Well at least others are getting them then smile I've owned mine from new and no intentions of selling yet.
I'm surprised the tabloids haven't picked up on it as the cost to reproduce all the log books in the country must be huge - and the cause appears to be a load of the blue log books being stolen. How did they get stolen?

Had one red V5 so far out of my three cars.

It does say that they should all be updated between now and November 2012.

Apparently 80,000 forms have gone "missing"

Was the reason behind it because a significant ammount of the orignal ones got stolen and they were all blank.
