Were these aluminium-bodied?

Seem to remember so, but can't find any reference to this factoid.

Thanks in advance, PH know-it-alls wink

I dont think any of the X-Types were. The XJRs of that era were Alu bodied though.

I believe the XJR weighs less than an S-Type R even though it is bigger.

Hmmmm Supercharged 4.2 XJR... cloud9 (Off to visit classifieds)

All x350 series XJs are aluminium, not just Rs.

The current XJ (alu) and current XF (steel) are almost the same weight with the 5.0 supercharged engine even though one is obviously much larger. I've driven both and the XJ feels noticably quicker somehow. Absolutely bonkers.

Do Alu-bodied cars pick up supermarket dings easier? The pannels must be softer, right?

My dad had one. It had rust under the rubber seals, rust under the paint, amongst lots of other 'niggles'

My twice as old and half as well looked after budget brand had no such issues.

I thought the x-type was kind of crap to be honest.
