We're Closing (Just For A Bit, Mind You)

Yes, that's right. PistonHeads will temporarily close from 8.00 today.

We all arrive at work with good intentions. Fire up the computer, check e-mails, open a spreadsheet and have a look at PH. It’s the last action that renders the rest of the day a write-off, as you attempt to look busy while simply arguing the toss in ‘The Lounge’ all day, but today we will scupper your skiving plans…be warned. At 8.00 we will close the site - the entire site - for a period of 4 hours while we flick some switches, press some buttons and scratch our chins as we make some rather exciting changes.

As someone once said ‘we don’t like change’ and, while that may be true, be assured dear PHers that what we are doing will be hugely exciting, completely in keeping with PH and it might just change the way we search for used cars forever.

Not so long ago we told you of a year-long development plan we’ve been working on to make the PH classifieds updated, refreshed and more refined. Well now is the time to make these changes live and we’d like you to be here for the launch at 12.00 today. We will serve a you virtual glass of something bubbly and take you through the changes we have made, inviting your thoughts and comments (as always) and offering you the chance to have a play with the new functionality.

Make no mistake, UK productivity is set to rise while the site is closed (no need to thank us, Mr Cameron), garden lawns will be cut and perhaps even pub takings will rise. But however you spend the time, make sure you return for the grand unveiling.

In years to come people will ask: ‘where were you when PH re-launched the classifieds?’ And you don’t want to be the one who missed it.

If you really can’t cope you can still keep in touch with us on twitter or on facebook. We’ll have nothing to do either, so that’s where we’ll be.

Well, I know a chap who writes a very good motoring website that can be used in PH's absence...

**cough** look in my profile **cough**

Of course, I only suggest you read it during PH's outage, obviously.

Disaster..!! I'm in a website demo meeting all morning. I was intending to spend the time at the back on PH. Can't do anything else... Well, maybe I could pay attention I suppose.

May I suggest www.carbuzz.com, whilst nowhere near as good as PH they do have a pretty website (not as pretty as PH though nono ) which is easy to use yes, don't bother with their forum or comments section though it's crap hehe

8 a.m. till 12p.m., tis' a long time, will you definately be back at 12?, also can we have a countdown?. biggrin

Ah exciting stuff, looking forward to the new classifieds. I just thought up another imaginary scenario for a new car on the way to work this morning as well (i hope i'm not the only one who does this).

Whenever there are updates to anything technical i always think of Eddie Izzard:
I think it was “The Etch-a-Sketch End of the World” basically, God going, “No, no, no!” (mimics shaking the etch-a-sketch ) “Don’t know what that is, don’t recognize that anymore.” Remember with the Etch-a-Sketch, when you’ve done a house… the picture of a house, and then you have a little sun shining up on top, and then you try to do a dog down here, and you have to leave vapour trails all over… (mimics drawing , then shakes it) “Oh, bugger it!”

Anyway hope not too much of that happens this morning, now what to do until 12?

That really requires a book running.

As I am feeling lucky today, what odds would anyone give for it actually working afterwards, and being able to deal with a proper phrase search, not just single words?

wink

This isn't good lads frown

4 hours of having to be productive is almost my whole weeks worth of normal work.

These classifieds better be good.
