I've just had some new tyres put on.
While the chap was doing it he offered to test my pressure gauges against his official decent one.

Mine were out a lot.
The pump with the built in gauge was reading 36 when it should have been 32, and the manual pen jobby was reading 37

This means that I've been unintentionally driving round with under inflated tyres – a bit bloody annoying as I check them regularly.

I'm off to Halfords (or some other garage) at lunchtime to get a new gauge.

Can anyone recommend one?
Or suggest any I should avoid.

While we’re at it.
I'm also planning on getting a decent Torque wrench so I can tighten my bolts later, and also swap some wheels on a different car.
Can anyone recommend a decent one for accurate but occasional use.
I was just going to grab a mid range one from Halfords.

In that scenario, I'd be more inclined to assume his gauge is out, not 2 of yours.

To answer you question, Halfords should sell these, and they're the nicest pressure gauge I've ever used. Michelin Programmable Tyre Pressure Gauge. You can even store different front and rear tyre pressures and they come in a lovely little protective case. In short, epic. biggrin

Regarding the torque wrench, a mid range halfords one should get you close enough. The professional range is excellent, and sealy make some reasonable ones at the cheaper end of the market.

Maybe.
But I've been told that electronic gauges on pumps are notoriously unreliable.
And the manual pen gauge is probably older than I am – so bit of it may have worn out over time – perhaps.

I'll get a shiny new one and see what it shows.

I’d be quite surprised if 'well known but names tyre delivery and fitting company' has a dodgy gauge on one of their fitting vehicles.

I got a torque wrench from Aldi the other day for £15, only for occasional use, probably similar to you, but I have not used it yet.

I bought this after finding my pen type was out by 3 psi, had good reviews in Auto express test.
