In the era of 'Insurers are robbing bds' - I've had a letter telling me that my premium (from my insurance staring in June 2011) has been recalculated and reduced by £150 (about a 30% reduction!)...and that £150 will be in my account within 10 days.

Only reason I can see for this is the findings from a non-fault accident from last year when an old buzzard drove into the back of me has finally been settled in my favour.

Clearly, does show the protected-no-claims is a hollow offer if a non-fault accident can carry an almost 50% premium increase.

But it's made my day!

Actually it doesn't show that at all, protected no claims bonus protects the discount you've built up not to protect your premium.
It never has and never will.

But if full NCB with accident give s 50% higher premium than full NCB without an accident... doesn't that mean the the discount is comparativel mockery offer?

No, the cost would be even more, as in your premium goes up by xxx & you also have to pay say 75% of it instead of 50% of it. Unless of course the insurance companies "doctor" the figures to make it look like they are doing you a favour, they wouldn't do a thing like that would they?

I'm sure they are as honest as the day is long.

But they've just given me £150 so I'm their friend today.
