Learning Languages & Rosetta Stone

Is it really any good, how deep does it go?

I was thinking of doing a different language each year to keep the grey matter alive, and doing an hours study a day, 5 days a week.

So say 260 hours over a year per language is that going to give you the basics?

260 hours should give you far more than the basics. But I wouldn't choose Rosetta Stone.

Rosetta Stone is absolutely fine if you're looking to really, really learn the language, from beginning to end, inside out. But if you've got a year, you'll want to learn as much useful stuff as possible. For that, I'd recommend Rocket. It's absolutely brilliant, and a lot cheaper.

Rosetta Stone has an awful lot of 'the pen is small and blue', 'the bananas are yellow' type stuff at the beginning.
