Road Rage - Senior HR bod at Yorkshire Water please?
Discussion
PH, could someone please give me an e-mail address or contact name/number for Yorkshire water
Preferably transport/HR and in the Rotherham area please??
As this is PH, I'll also explain why:
Driving back to the office this morning I was presented with a Yorkshire Water Van parked half on the pavement opposite a junction, the junction had a right filter lane which was occupied by three vehicles.
I didn't see an issue at all with simply slowing to a crawl and driving carefully through the gap, with about 6" on each side of my car, as I passed the van the driver started shouting and waving his fist at me and continued as I passed the van, followed up by a flashing of the lights.
Confused by this, I stopped safely, and got out and approached the van with a smile on my face and asked simply "Sorry, is there a reason your gesticulating at me?"
Genuinely confused as to what I could have done, and being very friendly the torrent of abuse hurled at me over the next few minutes left me absolutely speechless:
the Yorkshire water employee, in full view of passing members of the public replied:
"You're an absolute f
king dick head, what the f
k do you think you are playing at, you seriously couldn't just wait two f
king minutes instead of nearly taking the f
king wing mirror off my f
king van, what the f
k do you think you're playing at?"
Startled and shocked I simply replied, again quite friendly as I was trying to diffuse the situation and get to the bottom of what I had done wrong, I replied:
"Well I'm sorry you feel that but I didn't want to hold up the traffic behind me, I'm sure I was at least 4 or 5 inches away from your mirror and I did slow to a crawl"
Again the swearing continued, now stepping towards me in quite a threatening manner:
"You f
king little prick, all you had to do was just f
king wait, you nearly took my f
king mirror off, it's people like you that kill people driving stupid like that!!!"
I replied "Well I'm sorry but there was more than enough room, I did pass your van and I didn't hit it did I?"
"No you f
king nearly did though"
"OK" I replied, "But with the greatest respect you are the one parked illegally on the pavement and opposite a junction so you leave me little choice other than to squeeze past"
"Oh f
k off" he replied, "It isn't f
king illegal to park on the pavement, there are no f
king lines are there? ARE THERE???"
"well no, but it is still an offence, anyway it's kindof academic, either way I didn't do anything to deserve you waving your fist at me did i?"
"You nearly took my f
king mirror off you
!" he replied
"Right then" I replied, then turned and walked back to my car, followed by "Yeah f
k off you t
t, f
king drive carefully you tosser" as he got back in his van
It was just after I got in my car and spotted the phone that I decided to get back out and take the following photo:

Now I fully intend to follow this up with Yorkshire Water, I'm debating about following it up with the police too given how aggressive this chap was and how completely unwarranted the abuse was.
Advice/Opinions and a contact at Yorkshire water please??

Hmmm... tough to rate. There was lots of swearing but not from you. I say, 6/10.
More to the point, I work for a water company, and even with out very authoritive yellow flashing beacons, we are still not allowed to park illegaly/dangerously. If that helps
Otherwise, the usual PH response:
- Nuke from orbit
- Did you throw a can of Red Bull at the van?
- MX-5

Your next actions have been summed up quite nicely in the first reply
Do yourself the favour and forget about it. Why waste your own time on this? Pointless exercise that will probably go no where. Even if it did have any repercussions for the bloke, what does that matter to you? You're likely never to come across this bloke ever again in your life.

Shop him in OP,he sounds like an agressive t
t listening to your side of the story, and a dumb one at that for behaving like that while on company business/in a company vehicle.ApexJimi said:

Move on.
...and in the assumption that the OP's version of events is true, leave the guy free to abuse (or worse) the next unwitting person that crosses his path?

Although really regretting not letting my angry side out now!
f
king hell, listen to ten-men here. OP, you sounded like a right smug t
t, and I'll bet you know it too! He was an arse, yes, that cannot be denied. You, however, were a provocative arse right back. Move on.
I understand your anger and I would be a bit of a tosser towards him causing him trouble etc.
I find a call to the CEO or MD's office gets the ball rolling. You'll probbaly not get through to the man in question but a chat to his PA will be mentioned. Back it up with an email. They will give you an address to write to. name.name@watercompany.com or whatever. If you know the name of the CEO or whoever, its usually pretty easy to guess their email and CC them in on it.
As for the police. Why not? You have been the vicitm of an assault. He caused you alarm, distress etc. A complaint to the cops should be followed up. At the very least they will want to check it out. a Panda at the depot and a coupe of coppers might not go down well with his boss. If he's off work that day and local they may pitch up at his house. Very few of us want ht rozzers at the door. It might get nowhere but it could show him that it's best to be nice to members of the public while on duty.
I know of - for example - employees of a bus copany who get in serious trouble if they get in trouble on or off duty wearing the company logo.
A while back I had an altercation with a buider who blocked my drive and got very arsey with me, issuing threats etc.
Bulls
t aside - it was a bit scary.Went to the cops. The upshot was a caution under section five, The cop told me the full story. They'd spoken to him and he'd been a bit of a knob with them. They left him then turned up at his home late on a Friday night, nicked him chucked him in with all the pissheads for the night and cautioned him the next day.
He got a criminal record, my drive was unblocked and my neighbour still won't speak to me as he never returned to finish the job.
Assuking what you say is true. Go for it mate. Get the silly bullying water worker and good luck.
