Worth it?

Incentive for more customers and rip 'em off in the process?

This may sound cynical but if the MOT is cheap, you can rest assured they'll find something wrong with the car.

I use a local branch of a national chain which offers cheap MOTs, they've never tried to do extra work as a spin-off from the MOT. As a result, they get regular custom from me for other bits and pieces which are their "bread and butter" work.

Has been for me (never had any of mine fail at the £35-a-test place I use)..

To be fair ive been to garages charging full price who find things wrong when they dont exist. One year i had a car fail on its front brakes which i thought was very odd as they were very good brakes so i drove it to another MOT station about 4 miles away two days later and they passed it with no advisories.

To be fair, it probably depends a lot more on the specific garage offering the MOT.

I've used Halfords (Autocentre or whatever they call the service side) in Lincoln 3 times for half price MOT's on old cars that would normally fall into the category where your expecting a list of fails and they have passed each time with nothing more than advisories.

The little garage down the road who we've used just the once was failing the same car for all sorts of things.

Went to the local MOT Max for my and the OH's cars last month, 2 tests for £60, eligible for use on 2 cars or the same car next year. They just do MOTs so nothing in it for them to fail you. No problems and they open late on a Tuesday so suits me to take them in on the evening after work.

Anyone had experience with Audi's free MOT offer? Are there some t&c's I haven't seen or can I take my 18yo 80 there and get a free MOT?
