Discussion
hi im just about to pass my driving test and am decding what first car to get ! ill have about a 1000 to spend but dont just wanna get a boring corsa like every other lad, mainly because of the insurance, so any ideas that ar e unique and will be suprisingly cheap to insure..and isnurance companies!!! thanks !
Given my time over again. I'd go for a Rover 200 BRM. Cheap to run, standard running gear. That front grille gets everyone second looks.

Hmmm I've just noticed. I've seen those teeth before!

More often than not it's a second look of disgust!
Joblot of orange paint in the stores ?

Get something classic/older.
Unique, interesting, and cheap to insure being eligible for classic insurance policy.

There's absolutely no chance of the OP being able to afford to insure that having just passed his test, no chance at all.http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Rover-200-BRM-LE-/220888...

If you want something completely different to the Corsa/Fiesta/106 selection that young lads always go for then look at older stuff like a Morris Marina or Austin Maxi. I've had quotes of less than £2k on them, which when you are a new driver is bloody cheap to say the least. Oh and good luck with your test.

Youngdudes are going for Citroens.
The C3's are ok, but I don't know if a grand will get you one.
For gods sake don't get a C3 as your first car, it'll put you off motoring for life. The C3's are ok, but I don't know if a grand will get you one.
Just had one as a courtesy car - horrid beyond accurate description.
As suggested above, consider something like this weeks SOTW. You'll learn a lot about oily bits, and patience...
Whats the betting OP is a 17 year old lad? You are talking real money just to be a named driver on mum's 1.0L Clio, I doubt any insurer will give him a sensible quote on a RWD or turbocharged car. Better off getting a few years in driving something cheap and dull so that he can afford something better with his NCB. I used to know a lad who got a 1.8L Zetec Focus complete with s
te bodykit and had his mother front the insurance for him, while he was a named driver on it. Then came a time when she didn't want to insure that car anymore and having no NCB, he was forced to sell up and pay a horrendous amount of money for a 106 with a vacuum cleaner engine.
