Ferrari replicas - that's it, I've had enough!
Discussion
I've had enough of the f
king things. I can't take it anymore!
They are bloody everywhere and are now actually ruining my enjoyment of seeing a Ferrari.
3 weeks ago I saw a fake black 355 pull up outside a bar that I was in on the Friday night, some idiot in an Ed Hardy t-shirt got out of it and swaggered in with his tarted up girlfriend in the hope that everyone was looking at him. His moment came when he went outside for a smoke and caught some lads looking at it and then proceeded to lecture them on how fast it was and how lucky he was to 'own a Ferrari'.
Then a week or so later I saw a red 360 parked in town and I could tell from a considerable distance that it was fake (odd looking replica alloys and tiny brakes, plus it just didn't look right overall).... But still, pedestrians were fawning all over it and taking photos.... Then came the owner swaggering along the pavement with sunglasses on despite it being an overcast day, cue a conversation that started along the lines of:
Lady admirer and her friend: "wow is this yours? Is it a Ferrari?!"
Smooth sunglasses wearing guy: "Yes it is! Do you like it?"
Lady: "yeah it's amazing!"
Then forward to this afternoon and I was driving to my parents when a 360 came towards me, and my first thought was "oh great, another sodding replica".
Now, it might have been real. I don't know. I only saw it for a few seconds.
I have never really minded these replicas in the past, looking on them as a nice bit of craftsmanship by a kit car enthusiast, and they were so rare that if you saw a Ferrari, there was a 99.9% chance it was the genuine article. Now they are getting churned out in larger numbers and sold to idiots in fake Ray Ban sunglasses who WILL tell everyone it's real.
But now, when I see a 355/360/430, or even a Murcielago I just roll my yes and think its a heap of plastic bolted onto an old Toyota.
That's a real shame.
I feel sorry for the owners of real Ferrari's as they are getting their exclusivity watered down by these prats, and I feel sorry for the owners of these replicas as they are only kidding themselves.

The only saving grace is that I haven't seen a replica F40 apart from hilarious photos of a Triumph 'TR40'!
They're out there... there was one on a stand at the Stoneleigh kit car show last time I visited (maybe 2-3 years ago?). Quite an 'authentic' looking replica, to be fair.NinjaPower said:

Oh dear, that's quite a shocker. Love the engine 'detailing', complete with Toyota twin cam 16.. The irony is that for £20K you could get the real thing - at least a Mondial. You have now. Was posted on a thread a couple of days ago.
Was in traffic a few weeks ago and noticed what I thought to be a 360 replica heading toward me and tipped off my passenger to laugh at the dick in his fake Ferrari.
As it edged closer I grudgingly began to think that actually it was a pretty good job.
By the time we got to 4 cars apart I realised it was a Mclaren MP12...

You have totally ruined my night!!It also works lower down the food chain, I've heard on the M3 forums (and indeed once in person) someone asking if my M3 was a replica. I can sort of understand, but I'm more of the kind of person that prefers to just enjoy looking at a car without wondering if it was originally an MR2, a 320d, or a Peugeot 3008. If someone's put some passion into it, best of luck to them. I saw an M3 convertible that had been converted into a CSL (convertible) and I can say it was nothing less than spectacular.
Although those F40 reps do seem lacking, they're not wide enough!
