And I have no idea what it was!
It looked like it was new, but either trying to be retro or (more likely) just horribly horribly cheap.
It was overall kind of beetle shaped, but had rectangular lamps rather than round, a corrugated effect to the side doors (like those old Citroen vans, but only 2 or 3 deep box shaped corrugations), an almost Ford Anglia style rear window shape and that is about all that I managed to force my brain to accept as it went past.
Does anyone know what it is so I can look for more pictures and truly drink in its hideousness?

Yes! I am absolutely astounded that it has come from a major manufacturer - I thought it was either from India or somewhere or was a kit car.
I also didn't think it would take such a short time for someone to come up with it for the same reason. Thank goodness I have only ever seen one!
