I know many of us remember the big V12 Le Mans winners, but I always thought these were pretty spectacular. Basically an F1 car with a lid! IIRC they were as quick, if not quicker than their opened-wheel cousins.

I do, what an amazing car, but was tricky getting in and out due to the small door.

Amazing car (not QUITE as quick as an F1 though), but was really part of Bernie's paranoid (possibly rightly) attempt to stop manufacturers going to sportscars instead of F1.

The stupid short races with F1 with roof cars with full F1 engines was really just to lure Peugeot into F1...

Killed Group C dead and sportscar racing has never scaled the same heights since, unlike Bernie's bank balance...

I remember going to Le Mans in 1991 and the official publicity posters and tickets had an image of one of these. TWR knew they were never going to start though for such a long race, so went back to the XJR-12. That was the race that the rotary Mazda 787B won.

A certain Ross Brawn headed the XJR-14 design team and I am sure that their lap times were on a par with mid-table F1 cars of the time. It won the 1991 WSC for both drivers and constructors so deserves its place in history.
