Oh dear, separating from the wife and need a cheaper car :(

Since we will be going our separate ways and no longer sharing the bills, with my sensible hat on I've decided to sell my 911 and will need a cheaper vehicle, at least whilst I sort myself out with property etc.
So what can I get for around £5k that captures at least some of the excitement of my 993 911 or my previous car (Z4 M Coupe)?
Running costs need to be relatively sensible too as I will need to kit myself out with stuff for my new abode, and have money for going out and engaging in behaviours befitting a newly-single man.
I don't do that many miles and I'm just about to turn 38, so fuel and insurance aren't too much of an issue, but reliability and servicing/parts etc are.
The car can be any size or shape at all.
What do you think?

Maybe one of these will help put at smile on your face? It's the best bang for buck that I can think of!

We used to have two of these in the family. One we recently sold with 140k miles on the clock and it really felt like it had (almost) just left the factory!
This one had an HKS exhaust, induction kit, and was remapped putting out around 400bhp... It was a seriously quick car!!
If you want a well built, fast, reliable, rare motor... this has gotta be on your short-list. Just try to find one that hasn't been too molested, so many of these cars were ruined!
An RX-7 would be on my short list too, if only they weren't so unreliable.
