My car passed its MOT on Monday. There was an advisory about a chip in the windscreen in Zone A, which strangely, I didnt even know about...

Anyway, I'm fully comp, protected no claims with the insurance company named after a large mammal... is it just a case of calling Gavin from Birmingham (other chip fillers are available) or should I call Large Mammal for advice ?

I've let a sheltered life when it comes to chips and broken windows !

If you look on your insurance certificate or in the schedule there will be a phone number for glass claims. If you call that it will go straight to the approved repairer, they'll take your details and get it booked. No need to call the Insurance first.

Depends on price I suppose, if your renewal with the "large mammal" was after the 01/09/11 then there is a £25 windscreen repair charge if not then it should still be free.

Renewal was 6/5/11 - thanks for that info though - something to consider next year come renewal time !

Or you could just call a repairer of your own choosing and let them handle the rest.
