yet again another day another scam, posted my Mercedes c240 on free ad website, within a matter of minutes I had an email from " Evan Larson " showing he was interested. Sent him a quick reply saying that it was still for sale, then googled his name out of curiosity....bingo, scammer. Warning to all out there, bad English and grammar is a give away and so is over friendly or too informal greetings.

His email is shown below.

" Thanks for your response, am satisfied with the price, I am willing to buy it for my Dad. But due to
the nature of my job and location, phone calls making and visiting of website are
restricted but i squeezed out time to check this advert and send you
an email regarding it and i will like to know the present condition
and the last price. I will not be able to come for inspection because am a very busy
type, i work long hours everyday,i have gone through your
advertisement and i am satisfied with it.
As for the payment,i will be paying you via the fastest and secure way to pay
online(PayPal).and as for the pick up i have a private courier agent that will come for the
picking up after the payment have been made .
You can now send me your PayPal email so i can pay in right
away and also include your address.
looking forward to hear you back.... "

Having never used paypal how do these scammers work?

If he transfers you the money and then you transfer it to your bank can he charge it back?

Would Paypal allow this?

Again never used it so have no experience of dealing with PP.

In a collection in person PayPal scheme, the scammer targets eBay auctions that allow the purchaser to personally collect the item from the seller, rather than having the item shipped, and where the seller accepts PayPal as a means of payment.
The fraudster uses a fake address with a post office box when making their bids, as PayPal will allow such an unconfirmed address. Such transactions are not covered by PayPal's seller protection policy. The fraudster buys the item, pays for it via PayPal, and then collects the item from the victim. The fraudster then challenges the sale, claiming a refund from PayPal and stating that they did not receive the item. PayPal's policy is that it will reverse a purchase transaction unless the seller can provide a shipment tracking number as proof of delivery; PayPal will not accept video evidence, a signed document, or any form of proof other than a tracking number as valid proof of delivery.[citation needed]
This form of fraud can be avoided by only accepting cash from buyers who wish to collect goods in person.

Also, fraudsters will get access to a stolen paypal account and use that to buy the item.
By the time the actual paypal account owner cancels the transaction the car buyer is long gone.
