I'm going to get one because I think 70 should be the maximum driving age. Get him off the road.

I bet he is one of those people that stand huddled around a clipboard and borrowed speed camera.

Maybe he would like to join the driving group round these parts that seem to struggle to go above 40.

“a little guy stood up for people who obey the rules”

The discussion is about changing the rules, not breaking them.

funny thing to note the 70mph limit was introduced in 1965. i reckon cars safety and braking times have reduced considerably since then.

You may not be able to cope with an additional higher speed of 10mph but most other people can.

Im not sure there should be a set maximum driving age but the assessment at 70 should be more strict. Right now they get to 70 and sign a form saying 'im fit to drive, honest!' and they get their licence. I dont think they should sit a driving test but definately something to test awareness and reactions. When you speak to some people around that age it takes them 3 minutes to think of their house number, how can you expect them to react to someone runs out in front of the car or even manage in driving situations which are less drastic but require observation well ahead.

Some but NOT all. My wife is 70 and I can assure you that she does not dawdle (lead footed), can park and has NEVER crashed her car in 52 years of driving and has driven everything from tank carriers to ambulances.

I honestly think there should be a MINIMUM speed limit set on some road and the Police could 'have a word' at these people.

I didnt say all did i? I said some. I knew the 'its not all of them!' was coming and that is exactly why i disagree with a set maximum age for driving because everybody is different. You've just proven my point for me.

I heard a filthy rumour that some cars manufactured in the sixties are still on the roads today.

I want one of his stickers just to hoon past him and see which shade of red his face can reach with the rage.

Has driver skill though? I'd say not. There's some utterly abysmal driving on display on British roads these days!

Some 15 year olds are capable of driving. Doesn't stop there being a minimum driving age.

10 year olds are capable of drinking but there has to be a line in the sand somewhere.

Poor driving yes, most notably lane discipline and following too close on motorways and general lack of attention. But accident and death rates are lower now, in the 60s around 7,000 people (nearly 4 times more than last year) died on Britain's roads annually despite obviously far lower traffic levels compared to today. Stricter tests, theory tests, better instructors etc have all played their part but i'd wager seatbelts and airbags have made the biggest dent in that figure.

All im trying to say is any assertion that the roads were safer in the good old days are untrue.
