LA Show: Jaguar and Land Rover

Drop-top XKR-S makes world debut and Land Rover touts further evolutions of the DC100 Defender replacement

DC100 Defender concept goes 'more off-road'
DC100 Defender concept goes 'more off-road'
Jaguar Land Rover is in bullish mood here at the LA show, boss Dr Ralph Speth boasting of rising sales and particular success for the Evoque. Very much an ambassador for a new wave of cool Britannia car design, the Evoque is going down a storm this side of the pond.

Keen to underline the off-road heritage a new version of the DC100 concept is also here. Americans haven't quite kicked the SUV habit yet and the new Defender design concept has been bulked up with Jeep-scaring off-road rubber just to hammer the point home.

Jaguar meanwhile has a full world debut here at LA with the new cabrio version of the XKR-S, described as the fastest cabriolet Jaguar has ever sold. A white 550hp soft-top with an epic V8 is definitely on safe ground here in LA, boasts that the XKR-S production run is sold out for the coming model year suggesting that the cabrio's £100K-plus pricetag won't prove too much of a limiting factor. Stay tuned for some early driving impressions...

LA is also the North American debut for the stunning CX-16, here given a lick of paint and a California-friendly coat of ice white paint. And no less stunning for it.

Love the fully snorkelled-up DC100 in this image. I think they should just make it, like this. Awesome.

Looks good in white too...

But the white C-X16 takes the biscuit for me. Utterly stunning. Want on a biblical scale.

That Defender replacement looks too car-like and luxurious. A Defender should be a rufty-tufty utilitarian thing.

I've not bought a vehicle new before, but I am liking the look of this new Defender. So long as they keep it's underpinnings good and capable count me in.

Looks like a cross between a MINI and a Freelander or something. Not a fan.

The Jag though is just superb!

The DC100 is growing on me now I've seen that second concept - the proper wheels make it look a lot more serious smile

I agree, having proper wheels rather than 20 inch rims with painted on tyres is an improvement.

Still not sold though

Why put Jag and Land Rover in same topic?! Like the Jag, not the land Rover - how to rate???
confused
Because the combination is a perfect British (with Indian funding) garage - LR for the utility vehicle, Jag for the GT. thumbup

Land Rover should build this alongside the current Defender. I really don't think it should be a 'replacement'. Price it under £30k and market it as a rough and tough budget 4x4 and people will buy it.

The land rover to me just looks like cheap plastic that will crack and break just at the sight of a pothole. The jag though is simply amazing

The DC100 hurts my eyes (we have a current model Puma Defender 110XS)! Silly wheels and tyres too.

Some images have looked okay but that one is bad.

Yes the Defender needs an update but that's too Freelander meets Nissan Juke.

It's says:

"DC100 Sport, Speedster profile, Cut down screen, Wheel at each corner (WTF, obviously!!), Emphatic and ????, Sense of purpose, Confident"

Looks bloody awful.

Needs the LA beach volleyball team straddling it and looking as if they're having the time of their lives. LR marketing team need to work harder on their cringe worthy concepts!

The DC100 seems to be heading in the right direction but it's still too "lifestyle" to appeal to me.

Those Jags though... love

I can understand your point but off roaders don't need to be basic and utilitarian. Look and the Landcruiser. Prob the most successful 4x4 across the world, in everything from warzones to shopping malls, complete with leather and a/c etc. A basic LR Defender would have a very limited market. This concept is the new MINI IMO.

Quite agree, the Yanks have taken to Jags pretty well, see quite a few over there. The LR stuff however is still early days with a few D3 & D4s around. That DC100 thing is vile hurl

want that Jag!

I agree with Vladimir 100% r.e. the LR - meets Nissan Juke looks like an almost "immature" design - something like a kei car

land cruisers can't be specced with many different body configurations though

Pickup, high capacity pickup, flatbed, utility wagon, long and short wheelbase versions of all aforementioned
