Rover SD1 Police Car doing the rounds

Twice this week I've seen a Rover SD1 police car out and about. Fully liveried up and with the old "thimble" shaped roof lights. A real blast from the past - anyone know anything about it? Or have cost savings brought some old cars out of retirement? Would love to see another panda car...

I think I saw the same one in Kingston a few weeks ago, it was running in convoy with a few other 70s/80s Police vehicles..probably a collectors club of some sort, as I doubt the Police have the budgets these days to mothball such cars for show purposes

There is one appears at Bromley Pageant every year (or it did when I used to go, I last went in 2009) - C-reg from memory. Quite a sight on the M25 as well .

Yep, Dorking Halls was the place. I think there were a few other cop cars there as well, didn't see what vintage they were.

I saw the SD1 coming out of Leatherhead going towards Dorking this morning.

Which would be the obvious answer, but this thing was fully stickered & liveried and at least had the lights present on the roof. Surely a collector can't pass off to that extent?

Though I do know a chap who used to drive around with a child's (flat) police cap on the rear parcelshelf...he said it did wonders to deter tailgating!
