Mini Cooper SD OR Audi A1 2.0 tdi S-Line
Discussion
Apologies, but another what car, but kind of slimmed down….
Two cars to choose from, after not too much research:
Criterior to be kept to:
£20,000 value
£350/Month Business Contract Hire
Diesel
Under 120g/km of death particles
Right, having spent not too much time on the t’internet I have narrowed it down to either an Audi A1 2.0 tdi S-Line, or a Mini Cooper SD.
Only just read that Audi have/are bringing out the A1 with the 2000cc Motor with 145ps, to compete directly with the mini, so thought I would throw it open to the masses at PH. Both smart motors, and with the base prices allow for a few extras (atleats on the mini, which I have managed to get 17” alloys, Climate, Auto wipers & lights, Cruise, heated seats) the Audi not so sure yet as it is not available on the configurator.
Opinions ?

I had thought about the Polo as an option, and at £95.52/Month it would save a packet, but not really fussed having thought about it.
Audi is £19,490, so in theory the only options available are either met paint, or the 18” alloys. It isn’t an only car – good job with a baby on the way and a German shepherd to also house in the boot – together with a mamas and papas buggy! – Hopefully a few deals around (?) for a Disco 4.
Still have the Jewish racing Gold, Rent collection, ‘05 Mondeo Tdci as a workhorse, for going to vendors houses and, well, collecting rents, so would simple addition for going to the office.
Mini with the extras for the same price and pretty much the same speed etc does appeal – and I have ahd one previous – and we did in ’06 go to the Geneva Motorshow 3 up in it!

Seat Ibiza is available in FR trim with the same engine and a big saving!
But the Ibiza is both ugly, and finished like a Seat - so it's cheap and very nasty inside.I'd look at the Polo - the current shape car looks very good and they're pretty big - I keep mistaking them for Golfs.

Both the Audi and Mini are nice, but the Mini is a lot more fun to drive and has more character IMO
I think that the character of the MINI is diluted by the number of the suckers on the road - I'm a little bored of seeing them if I'm honest. So I'd go for the Audi even if it hasn't been as well received by the motoring press. I'd go for the A1 as it looks like it would cost a bit less to run and the interior is nicer. Both are excellent cars though can't really go wrong with either.

You do both realise the biggest diesel in that is the underpowered 1.6 TDI 90? Hardly comparable, and not that much cheaper either. va1o said:

A few years ago, I was repping up and down the country in a B6 Passat with a 90bhp diesel lump!It wasn't quick, but it was adequate for everyday use.
Surely 90bhp in a Polo is going to be lots better?
