Our little boy (now three) has been able to identify all major makes of car by their badges since he was about 2.5. He can also identify all tractors by their colour (e.g. green with yellow wheels - John Deere, green with red wheels - Fendt, light green with red wheels - Klaas).

Is this normal? It makes me ever so slightly proud though...

He can also tell a V8 when he hears one...

Good stuff!

Many years ago at a Bentley Drivers Club meeting, there was a very small boy walking along a line up of Vintage Bentleys, he paused, and said to his father "Daddy, that's an early 3 litre, it doesn't have front brakes".

My son's first word was 'tractor' which made me proud. He shakes with excitement when he sees one now. They are a lot bigger than when I was a boy so I can hardly blame him.

He has taken up a new hobby of posting pebbles from the driveway down the exhaust pipes of my TVR cerbera though which I'm not so keen on frown

That sounds most concerning. I often feel sad that my parents did not bring me up as a 'normal' football loving boy. I would get a new football, a new copy of fifa, and a new football shirt once a year, and be happy. As things stand however, I have a hobby that's probably more expensive than even a serious crack addiction irked

So many cars... so little time and money to experience them all.

I wonder if Garlic's first word was 'caravan'?

green with red wheels - Fendt,
Fendt come in any colour you like these days.

I've even seen on in Piano Black with flames and Blacked out windows.
It was being used to advertise the different custom options.

It looked pretty damn good (for a tractor)

Dagnammit. Maybe he thinks it'll make your TVR sound more like a tractor. biggrin

Oh darn - that makes it more complicated. All the Fendts I have seen have been green/red - I'm not looking hard enough!

There's a Lambo one that often parks next to our local Tesco (yep - we're in Cornwall!). Rather cool. White of course.

My 3 year old daughter threw a strop once, because she wanted to go in my M3 rather than the Primera. She says she likes the 'Raaaaaa' noise it makes.

Perfectly normal. I was doing that and racing my cousin at spoting car registrations on the school bus. I turned out okay, ah; just found a flaw to that argument.

My mother tells me that I was still in my pushchair when I was able to identify the make and model of every car on the road. I can well believe it as I can't remember a time in life life when I haven't been able to.

My son is almost 7, and, although has a moderate interest in cars, is still only aware of a handful of manufacturers. Hey ho, takes all sorts. At least I've managed to convince him to support the same pathetic football team as me.

In his defence, in my youth (mid 80's) there were a lot fewer varieties of cars on the road and a lot more discernable shapes too, so it was much easier.

I could do the car thing when I was that age and my son picked it up too. His car knoweledge is really impressive and he's only 10 now.

That's a good point. I was a toddler in the early 70s, much easier task back then.
