Rules.

Must be fully comprehensive in the UK.

Standard 12 month policy,... in other words not classic car, kit car, low mileage, laid up etc, and not including any additional cost for paying over instalments....

I’m moving house and having trouble getting insurance for my ’89 Porsche at my new address. Can’t use classic policies because it won’t be garaged. Best quote so far is a grand!

I currently pay £3400 for my SL500. I'm under 30 and have had a few short term bans in the past (speeding) but never had an accident in 10 years of driving so I do feel slightly victimised. Car Insurance in the UK is a legal form of theft!

At 22 years old I did the classic thing of buying a car I'd struggle to insure.
I bought an Escort Cosworth for £16k, mallard Green, totally original apart from some 17 inch speedlines, and a 30mm drop.
This was back in 2003, and I lived in a safe and quiet low crime area.
The car was genuinely garaged at night ( most nights ), and I had 3 points on my licence. I'd even done the Pass Plus.
First quote was a shade over £10k!
The lowest quote, and the one I ended up paying was £4300 per year, with an excess of £1500. All done through a small local broker.

The cheapest I've ever actually paid was when i came back to the UK after being away for nearly a year. Had a run around 2001 Fiesta 1.6 3dr Freestyle ( which was quicker than the Zetec-S of the day.
The annual quote ( 10,000 miles per year, full comp, 25 years old, 3 points on licence, not garaged )was only £180, which I cancelled after 2 months when I sold the car.

£98 full comp on an Alfa 147JTD - Was £168 but I got £70 back through Topcashback.co.uk.
Like all insurance, helps if your past it (41) and live in a low-risk area (Dorset)

£220 is pretty good, under £200 is amazing. Hell, my shed is north of £250 mostly as it's parked on-road in a not-entirely lovely area and my 'self employed' status doesn't help either (I checked once and 'unemployed' was cheaper but you can only sink so far!!)

I remember paying £365 for a Morgan +8, way back in 1978,(I was early twenties at the time)...probably around £1500 in today's money...swapped it for a brand new 3.0S Capri which was about the same premium IIRC.

Remember thinking it was expensive at the time....Now 17yr olds are quoted £4/5000 to insure a battered Picanto....

Not all classic policies require garaging.

I've had policies with Lancaster in the past that have not required the car to be garaged.

Holy cr4p that's good!

£320 for ours - insured in the wife's name (33, full NCB) and me as a named driver (36 full NCB), and Cornwall postcode.

The BM 335d isn't bad - £320 a year.

£85 for the Alfa on a classic policy, so cheating really.

£350ish for the KA on a normal policy, 1 year no claims.
Am 26 so feel that its quite high for a tiny ford KA.
